When a dream becomes a reality ....
When a dream becomes a reality....... In 1719 in the beautiful town of Chantilly, the Prince de Condé’s dream came true. It is not named Château du Cheval but we leave the readers decide if it is or not a real Château!
.
Named “Les Grandes Ecuries”, this beautiful monument faces the racecourse and is very present today in the life of the Cantiliens to celebrate some of the most talented horses of the world.
.
The story behind this magnificent place next to the Château de Chantilly is quite extraordinary: as this Prince believed he would be reincarnated as a horse ( and why not!) , he hired Jean Aubert, a very talented architect to build across his prestigious château , one majestic place suitable to house a horse of his rank.
He was quite obcessed by the fear of living his second life with no luxury and far from the comfort the he was accustomed to , so he simply took matters in his own hands in a very creative way to say the least!
.
The result is certainly grandiose and superb with its 186 m long stables. It is considered today a masterpiece of 18th century architecture.
The Prince de Condé was very social, had likely in mind to keep this up while he would be reincarnated as a horse, so this Château can host 240 horses ( the Prince’s friends we imagine !)
.
We invite you to discover this majestic place in the town of Chantilly in France. The visit is enchanting for its beauty, interesting history and equestrian shows throughout the year.
